Languages of Whittier

We have such a rich community with members from all over the world. These language posters were created and hung to celebrate the plethora of languages that are spoken by students at our school and to challenge everyone to pick up a few words in a new language in addition to Spanish! 

¡Bailamos!

 We had a brief discussion about different kinds of dances from around the world. The older grades did some research on different dances from Latin American countries and shared out on the information they found. We then learned "el paso básico", or the basic step, of the salsa, as demonstrated in this video. Students were then shown an example of salsa dancing with a partner and were given the chance to try dancing with a partner. Whittier students have some great rhythm!

Simon Dice/Simon Says

Esta semana comenzamos a jugar "Simon Dice" con algunas frases o comandos comunes que usaremos en la clase de español este año. ¡Pueden hacerse preguntas en casa para ver cuántos recuerdan!

This week we started playing "Simon Dice" with some common phrases or commands we will be using in Spanish class this year. You can quiz each other at home to see how many you remember!

Mi nombre es Lesley y estoy muy emocionada de ser su profesora de español este año.

Soy de Colorado y aprendí la mayoria de mi español mientras vivía y enseñaba inglés en Argentina. Tengo una maestría en educación especial y educación CLD (culturalmente y lingüísticamente diversa) y anteriormente he enseñado desde jardín de infantes hasta la escuela secundaria. Tengo dos hijas que están en 2do y 4to grado en Uni Hill Elementary y mi esposo es de Argentina.

Aqui les dejo una foto que use para presentarme esta semana a mis estudiantes. Pueden preguntar a sus hijos que les recuerdan. 

¡Tengo muchas ganas de conocer a sus hijos este año!

Hello Whittier families and students!

My name is Lesley and I am very excited to be your Spanish teacher this year.

I'm from Colorado and learned most of my Spanish while living and teaching English in Argentina. I have a Master's in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Special Education and have previously taught kindergarten through high school. I have two daughters who are in 2nd and 4th grade at Uni Hill Elementary and my husband is from Argentina. 

Here is a photo that I used to introduce myself to my students this week. You can ask your child what they remember!
